Our Story
Bawley Point Fire Service has been serving the local community for almost 40 years with the first brigade fire shed being officially opened on 9 September 1984.

During the 19th century, coordinated firefighting was non-existent, with many landowners forced to defend their own properties. By the beginning of the 20th century, in response to particularly serious fires, the NSW State Government formalised control of fire prevention which led to the formation of Rural Fire Services throughout NSW.

Our Captains, past and present, have led the brigade through some tricky times.
The Currowan fire of 2019/2020 saw the team of firefighters and all the other members of the emergency service units fight together and save the village of Bawley Point. The brigade then went on to fight the fire for another 60 days as it devastated the South Coast.

Throughout the year we hold special events to bring the community and the volunteers together.
Our annual Soup Night is held on the second Sunday in June and is a night of fun for all.

The second weekend in September is our Get Ready Weekend where we encourage the community to plan and prepare for the fire season.

Our Mission
The mission of the Bawley Point Rural Fire Brigade is to provide protection of life, property and the environment from the effects of fires, hazards and other incidents.
We engage the community in our mission by providing continuous cooperation, service and support.
We maintain a constant state of readiness to respond to all requests for services through training, maintenance of equipment, and a desire as volunteers to serve our community.

Our People
With 49 volunteers, our brigade is always ready to help with fires, motor vehicle accidents, rescues and other incidents and events in our community.

We train every Thursday evening from 4:30pm. Our training officers prepare exercises in addition to firefighting, such as map and coordinates reading, water pump set ups and rescue simulations.

The Bush Fire Fighters' Pledge circa 1955
I pledge myself to assist in the prevention of bushfires and to preserve the bush, crops and pastures. I will be careful with fire and matches and will extinguish camp and picnic fires before I leave them. I will encourage others to be as careful as myself.
